Filler Now, Small Revision Rhinoplasty Later for Nose Dent?

I need to have a dent above my tip filled in after a revision rhinoplasty. Can I have temporary filler put in for the year I will have to wait before a more permanent solution, like filling in the space with soft tissue or cartilage? Will the filler disolve enough in time? Is this a good idea?

Using fillers in the nose for small dents has been around for over 40 years. Dr. Richard Webster, a mentor to us all published a very large series of patients with fillers. We now have a much larger array of available fillers. I sometimes use fillers as a temporary measure as patients heal and are ready for a revision surgery. However, I like to leave at least 6 months between fillers and revision surgery so all the filler has dissolved.

In-person consultation needed before filler in the nose
Without seeing the problem it is impossible to give you a solution. Ask the doctor who did your nose and the revision. I personally think you have to be very careful about putting fillers in the nose.

The filler option is fine, as long as you are about a month or more post revision. If you try to use it too quickly after a surgery, the results are less predictable. The choice of product like restylane, juvederm, or radiesse is not that critical, but if you are looking only for a year effect, stick with restylane or juvederm. Some long term studies have shown that restylane (and therefore very likely juvederm) induces collagen deposition of your own during healing. So it is possible... more

Fillers and Nasal Revision Surgery
The current role of hyaluronic acid fillers that are non-particulate fillers such as hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm or Restylane are good temporizing fillers to correct small nasal indentations that will allow one to wait and look good while you’re waiting for the nose to mature. One can then do a true revision rhinoplasty 12-15 months after the procedure if one is needed.

Juvederm or Restylane for temporary fix after Revision Rhinoplasty
Thank you for your question and yes a temporary filler like Juvederm or Restylane would be good for a temporary fix. It was mentioned by another physician about using Radiesse and I would not suggest this as it is not a temporary filler and may have much longer lasting results then you care for. Juvederm and Restylanre generally last for about six months and you should wait at least a year for any revision rhinoplasty surgery so these would be your best choice. Best regards! more

Tissue filler before revision Rhinoplasty?
A tissue filler can be used as a temporary solution while waiting for further surgery. The filler should be resolved before commencing the Rhinoplasty.

Using fillers to correct small defects in rhinoplasty
It is possible to correct small defects or depressions in the bridge of the nose with a dermal filler after a rhinoplasty. This may be used as a bridging procedure before the patient receives a revision rhinoplasty a future date. In this area the face, a small amount of filler will go a very, very long way. For this reason it is essential that you only work with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has a great deal of experience in rhinoplasty and dermal fillers to obtain your best... more

Fillers a good idea while waiting for revision rhinoplasty
Injectable fillers are very effective for correcting small irregularities of the nose. I generally prefer waiting at least 12 months after a primary rhinoplasty before performing any revision surgery. A filler may be an effective way to optimize appearance while waiting to the appropriate time for revision.

Fillers can be an option for temporary improvement in contour defects
A filler such as Restylane can provide improvement in your appearance for approximately six months. Since it is all absorbed, this temporary improvement will not interfere in the ultimate surgical outcome of whatever revisionary nasal surgery you choose. I think your idea is a very good one.

There are several different, safe and proven fillers available now for use in the face and nose. In general I feel much more comfortable using small amounts of filler to correct irregularities of the dorsum (the upper two thirds of the nose) rather than the tip. The problem with the tip is that there are deep, large pores that are full of bacteria and there is a risk of infection or even possible injury to the skin. You need to make sure the doctor doing the filler understands this and... more

Temporary Fillers in Rhinoplasty
It is reasonable to use temporary fillers such as Juvederm or Radiesse until revision surgery is done. These fillers will last 12-18 months. Permanent correction with cartilage can be done after the fillers absorb.

Filler after rhinoplasty
Hey, Good question! A temporary filler (restylane/radiesse) will buy you time until full healing of the nose is complete (12-18 months), at which time you can decide whether you need and or to do a revision. But! If you only have a very small dent, an experienced practitioner might be able to use silikon (off label, now approved by FDA) microdroplet injections for a permanent non surgical solution. Again, only after full healing is complete. Good luck !!!  :-))

Filler after rhinoplasty with expert injector
Certain defects in the nose can be corrected by Hyaluronic acid. It has to be done by an expert injector. It is important to chose a Board certified PS. Otherwise you may create more problems

Filler for nasal deformity can sometimes provide a long lasting correction
For minor contour irregularities of the nose after rhinoplasty (or even if no surgery has been done), fillers such as Juvederm can provide a nice correction for small indented areas or to subtly shape the nose. The corrections can actually be long lasting, particularly if repeated a time or two, and, in some cases, can provide permanent correction. It certainly would be very reasonable for you to try a filler first and see if the result is to your liking and how long it lasts. A surgical... more

Silikon-1000 may be used by experienced physicians for permanent, Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty.
I have had favorable results filling in "dents" after Rhinoplasty Surgery using Silikon-1000. This is a permanent filler, so you should consult a physician experienced with the serial puncture, micro-droplet technique of liquid silicone injection. Experience of your physician is critical, since these injections need to be placed at the correct level for natural, permanent results. I've attached a link to my Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty photos for your perusal. I hope this is helpful... more

Temporary filler to correct nasal dent prior to nose job.
An ideal temproary filler for this is restylane if the tissues are soft and capable of being augmented. Occasionally scar tissue limits the ability to "expand" an area and this may be the critical factor in the success of the injection. Most of this should have dissipated by a year but can be treated with off label use of hyaluronidase if still present.

Fillers are a great option for nose contouring
Hello - You're absolutely right...fillers are great for filling in contour irregularties of the nose. A revision rhinoplasty may be needed for more agressive contouring or longer lasting results. This can be accomplished with cartilage from your ear or rib. The fillers may last up to a year, so if you're waiting for your revision surgery they're are good idea.

Filler for Dorsal Nasal Defect
I fully agree with Dr. Persky. although most plastic surgeons are at ease placing fillers in the nose, your surgeon is the one who knows exactly where to put it being he/she was there. Such a filler could act as a temporary correction or you may choose to keep having it without having another operation if this is the only area requiring repair.

Non-Surgical "Rhinoplasty" Filler Until Definitive Revision Rhinoplasty
Hi Sara, Yes, you may have filler carefully placed in the area that needs volume in your nose until you are ready for definitive repair. Best to have your rhinplasty surgeon place the filler so that he/she knows exactly where the filler is, and when it has dissolved sufficiently so that surgery will be most precise. Good luck and be well. Dr. P

Nonsurgical nose job for correcting previous rhinoplasty dents
Using fillers for the nose has been termed  nonsurgical rhinoplasty and this has been around for a long time despite the recent media attention that it has received. Your plan sounds like a good idea and the filler should be gone by 1 year.

Fillers can augment small dents after rhinoplasty
Yes, fillers can be used to augment small dents after rhinoplasty. Sometimes scar tissue may form in the area of the dent and fix the problem.

Radiesse is very good for filling in dents temporarily after rhinoplasty.
Radiesse comes in .3cc's and costs about $300. It lasts 12- 18 months. You can then have the dent filled in with cartilage for a permanent correction.

Filler after revision rhinoplasty
You could have filler placed in this area, and you may not even need anything later if the filler does its job. I personally avoid placing filler into the tip itself, but along the dorsum of the nose it works very well. I would speak with your surgeon to make sure he or she agrees with this plan. If you had your surgery very recently, I would suggest waiting a few months to allow some of the swelling to resolve prior to placing anything in there. Good luck, /nsn.

Filler for nose depression
A hyaluronic acid filler (like Restylane) is ok to use for small defects in the nose. These fillers typically last about 6 months in areas like the nasolabial folds, but likely much longer in the nose. This is likely because there is less soft tissue movement in the nose. You can expect the filler to last about 9 to 12 months in area. If the depression is small and you are planning to have a revision, the perhaps it is best to sit and wait on it until you have the small revision. Good luck. more

Using filler while waiting for revision rhinoplasty is common
Yes. If you choose a safer filler like Juvederm or Restylane then you can do that. There are always risks of infection and allergic reaction but using a little bit of filler while waiting for a revision is a fairly common practice.

Fillers can be used safely in the nose. They are typically used for the so called 'non-surgical Rhinoplasty' procedures or to help camouflage minor irregularities after surgery. Although the filler will not provide a long term solution, there should be no issue with using a filler to put off another procedure on your nose. A 1 year time frame is appropriate. I would not recommed using Radiesse in your tip. It can be difficult to do surgery on the area if any product is still around. It will... more

Filler works while waiting for revision rhinoplasty for nose dent
Thanks for the very interesting question. I would try to improve your problem with a very temporary filler like Restylane (which is the least expensive) too see if it helps. It will only last a few months so the planned surgery will be able to be preformed. From MIAMI
