Non-surgical Nose Job or Rhinoplasty for Prominent Hump?

I actually had Radiesse injected last year but the filler is gone. I made an appointment to get it again but I need professional opinions. I think I broke my nose when I was 15. I didn't have this hump before then and I have cartilage sticking out more on the right side so the hump is more visible on the left profile. Am I a good candidate for a non-surgical nose job or do I need rhinoplasty? Is my nose too big for the filler? Or the bridge too high? Thanks.

A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty is not always a substitute for Rhinoplasty Surgery.
Were you happy with Radiesse in your nose? Unfortunately, you do not appear to be a great candidate for Injectable Fillers in your nose. As you surmise, your nose is a bit large, and adding Filler will only make things larger. You appear to be an excellent candidate for Rhinoplasty Surgery. We could consider nasal shortening, tip rotation, and hump-removal for a natural, attractive improvement in your appearance. I hope this is helpful for you.

Rhinoplasty needed for prominent hump
You are looking for a consensus of opinions. We all agree -- you need a surgical rhinoplasty. Go see 3 boarded plastic surgeons to evaluate the operation and possible results. Best of luck from Miami

Non-surgical procedures for the nose
Dear Cecy, Non-surgical procedures for the nose have a very limited application. It can temporarily raise a low radix or temporarly augment the tip but most often the shape of the nose is corrected surgically. Several factors affect the shape of the nose. There is bone, cartilage and the soft tissues (the subcutaneous fat and skin). Your nose will best be addressed with rhinoplasty.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose job)
Surgical rhinoplasty will give you the longest lasting result and provide the best opportunity to correct your problem. Having said that, non-surgical rhinoplasty (see video below) can provide some modest but temporary improvements in the nose for those wishing to avoid surgery. see video

Surgical Rhinoplasty is Required
You are definitely a candidate for a surgical Rhinoplasty. The term "non-surgical Rhinoplasty" is a tremendous misnomer: it is not a Rhinoplasty, it is "filler in the nose". From an aesthetic standpoint, dorsal hump reduction would greatly improve your profile and probably change the relative appearance of your tip. In this circumstance, adding filler to the nose would be a mistake.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
At this point you should consider a surgical rhinoplasty. You have a prominent dorsal hump as well as a down-turned tip or "ptotic tip."  You can get very nice, long-lasting results with a good rhinoplasty. Best, Dr.S.

Rhinoplasty
In my opinion you stand to get the BEST results with a surgical Rhinoplasty. Continuing to put fillers in the nose in an effort to mask the hump is not only cost prohibitive but eventually would result in a complication. Dr. P. Aldea

Surgical vs Non surgical Rhinoplasty
I would recommend surgical rhinoplasty. You need the hump taken down with some tip work. Problems with fillers is that it is not permanent and you are creating scar in the area which may become an issue later on when you do decide to have a formal rhinoplasty. My feeling is that fillers are better served for patients who have had rhinoplasty done before in the past and now need some areas touched up. Hope that helps.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty for dorsal hump
The only way to correct this is with a surgical hump removal, nasal osteotomy, tip cartilage suturing and columellar strut grafting. Shortcuts on a nose such as yours will certainly leave you unhappy! All the best, Rian A. Maercks M.D.

I have performed Rhinoplasty, Revision Rhinoplasty, Nasal Surgery here in Beverly Hills/Los Angeles for over 20 years and the non-surgical Rhinoplasty would not make the bridge of your nose smaller.  Non-surgical Rhinoplasty is the placement of soft tissue fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane or Radiesse into the tissues of the nose to change the nasal shape.  These fillers create added size and volume and do not have any possibility of reducing the cartilage and bone of... more

Rhinoplasty for prominent hump, not filler.
Fillers should not be injected into the nose for fear of multiple complications. There have been many disasters that have occurred. A rhinoplasty is going to be the best option by removing the hump of the nose, adjusting the tip and balancing the entire nasal bridge aesthetic lines.

noplasty vs Fillers
I recommend an open rhinoplasty to lower your profile and augment your tip. More specifics would be provided during a consultation. If you were satisfied with the results after your previous fillers, you can repeat that approach. With surgery you can achieve a more definitive result which will last a lot longer than one year.

Rhinoplasty and fillers
Hi, I would recommend going ahead with a rhinoplasty which will definitively correct your areas of concern. You could always have filler put in again, but this is temporary. Fillers will not reduce the size of the nose, but they can straighten the profile. If this is all that you want and cost is an issue, go ahead with the filler again. If you want to correct everything permanently, go with a rhinoplasty. Best wishes.

Nasal Reshaping without Surgery
First, be very careful with any injections into the nose. The nose is very susceptible to color changes, discoloration, swelling, blood flow, pain, numbness, and other potential complications with inappropriate injections into the nose. There isn't a filler on the market currently that is FDA approved for injection into the nose. Everything is being used off-label. Fillers should never be placed into the tip of the nose, since complications may more likely occur at the nasal tip. Fillers... more

Hello, The best results are obtained when a surgical procedure is performed. I don’t recommend injectables into the nose, as I have seen many complications result from them. It is difficult to determine exactly what your needs are without seeing additional photos and/or performing an examination. Thank you and best of luck. Dr. Nassif

Rhinoplasty vs filler
Your photo is very helpful!  From it I would say that you absolutely need a surgical rhinoplasty to reduce the hump and rotate the tip up some.  Go to a rhinoplasty expert and see what they say.  Skip the fillers as they will not be good for what you have.

Nonsurgical vs. surgical rhinoplasty
Thank you for submitting a photo-- this is very helpful. Based on this photo, I think you should have a surgical rhinoplasty. In one operation that lasts about an hour and a half, you can have a result that will in most cases last a lifetime. The recovery is shorter than you may think and in experienced hands the results are very natural. I think nonsurgical options like Radiesse are good for touch up procedures in very specific circumstances, and should not be used as the first choice... more

Non-surgical rhinoplasty or surgery for nasal hump
Fillers into the nose are extremely effective for some patients. They tend to last longer than fillers placed elsewhere in the face and in the proper situation, the correction of the nasal defect is immediate. There are, however, several limitations of fillers. They can elevate a "valley" along the nasal dorsum, but, cannot lower a hump. They are generally not used to change the shape of the tip either. Your photo demonstrates nose that has poor tip support and a dorsal hump. I... more

Non-surgical nose job or Rhinoplasty for prominent hump?
Hi Cecy, When you can afford the time and cost, have a surgical rhinoplasty. You have had fillers in your nose before so you know what the "non-surgical" rhinoplasty can achieve. Choose your rhinoplasty surgeon most carefully, have the operation, and then you won't need to continue to worry about the repeat non-surgical treatments that don't come close to the results of a well done, permanent rhinoplasty. Good luck and be well. Dr. P

Fillers are only a temporary solution for noses and have limited uses
The problem with fillers for a "non-surgical" rhinoplasty is that they have limited use. They can only fill above and below humps to make them stand out less from the rest of the nose. They cannot refine or lift the tip of your nose. They cannot narrow wide nasal bones. I feel that fillers for a non-surgical Rhinoplasty are over used and really don't give you anywhere the quality results you can get from a well performed rhinoplasty.

Humps of the nose like yours really look better after a rhinoplasty.
Fillers will give only a minor correction and need to be done for the rest of your life. You would do better with a rhinoplasty to remove the bump. See an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon and you should have an excellent result.

You have options for nasal hump
Hi, The photo does not show the precise details but adding filler above the hump to make the dorsal contour more straight is an option, however, in a beautiful young woman, actually removing the hump and making the nose "cuter" rather than larger with fillers, is a better option (if done properly)
