Rhinoplasty NYC - (212) 644-9494 - How can a nose job be non surgical? - New York, NY
The theory behind a non surgical nose job is that many of the visual defects that a rhinoplasty or traditional nose surgery would correct are simply a matter of filling and smooth the shape of the nose. This is possible using dermal fillers or facial fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane, or Artefill.
Some fillers such as Radiesse or Restylane build structure on insertion but are self-dissolving, so the effects – good or bad, will disappear in about a year (9-12 months depending on the filler used.) Artefill, however, is a permanent filler which will remain in place.
If the filler is injected carefully, it will add shape and volume to the sections of the nose that will visibly diminish any unwanted traits. Take for instance a bump on the nose… if the level of the rest of the nose is raised slightly, the impression of a bump can be diminished or erased. this technique works with reshaping the tip of the nose, and even crooked noses with just a few injections during an office visit.
Non surgical nose jobs are becoming known as “Injection Rhinoplasty” or “15 Minute Nose Jobs” because they resolve problems safely and quickly, without the risks and protracted recovery normally found with Scottsdale rhinoplasty surgery. A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the top of the nose before starting.
The dermal filler, usually radiesse or restylane, is injected to fill and smooth out sharp angles and depressions, or alter the angle of the tip of the nose, giving it symmetry and making it appear smaller and more attractive. Since you are awake during the procedure, you have the ability to review results in a mirror and guide the process as it occurs. The procedure does not usually cause bruising or swelling and patients can usually return to work right away.
About the Dermal Fillers: Radiesse, Restalyne and Artefill
Radiesse, a compound composed of calcium and cellulose, is a safe, reliable filler material that does not require pre-procedure allergy testing. Restylane is another filler that can be used which has had many years of safe and reliable use. It also does not require allergy testing.
Using Radiesse or Restalyne is like trying out a nose for a year, then if you decide it doesn’t quite fit, they are simply broken down by the body naturally and disappear over a month or so, leaving no trace behind. If you loved your new nose, however, you might choose to make it permanent with Artefill.
In 2007, Artefill was approved by the FDA as the first permanent injectable filler in the US. Artefill is composed of methyl methacrylate, a safe, non reactive plastic that has been in use for many years as a surgical implant, in a collagen carrier. Artefill does require a collagen skin test prior to use.
