Discomfort after Rhinoplasty Surgery is minimal with either an open or closed approach.
Most patients in my practice grade their post-op pain 1-2 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being their most painful experience. I almost always use an open approach, and in my experience, the open approach is not associated with more discomfort. I do not routinely use nasal packing after Rhinoplasty Surgery. Nasal packing increases post-operative discomfort, and in my opinion is largely unnecessary. I hope this is helpful for you.

Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
Thanks for the question. I perform both open and closed (endonasal) rhinoplasty and in my experience, patients report that their postoperative pain is mild with either approach. Pain medication is usually needed for only 2-3 days following surgery. I would leave it up to your surgeon to decide whether an open or closed technique would be more effective for your rhinoplasty. The decision should be made on the basis of which issues in the nose are being addressed as well as the.
